Tatworth & Forton is a small rural parish that lies near both the Devon and Dorset Borders and the Axe Valley. It is about 12 miles from the Jurassic Coast and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
It is a rural area so whilst there are plenty of places nearby most are best accessed by car. Busses run from the bottom of the hill but it is a rural service so it is best to plan ahead. Taxis are available from Pinewood Cars, Woods (24 hour availability) and Chard Cabs. It is always best to book in advance as we are in a rural area and there aren’t quite so many as in the cities. For day trips or private mini cab hire take a look at Rooster Bus.
Perry Street and Tatworth is a small rural Parish there with a local shop for all the basics, places to eat and drink, a quiet fishing lake, playing fields & park, Elegance Relaxation and Beauty where you can be pampered in a peaceful and cosy log cabin, some lovely walks and a beautiful 18th Century Church.
Being surrounded by countryside we are lucky to have a lot of beautiful walks nearby. The parish council have published details of a few to get you started (Tatworth & Forton Walks). For the more adventurous hikers the Jubilee Trail starts from Forde Abbey which is nearby.
Eat & Drink
There are a few places to eat and drink nearby. Below we have listed the nearest but there are plenty more in the directions of Chard, Axminster or Crewkerne all of which are only a short drive.
You don’t have to travel far to find some great fishing spots. Perry Street Pond is a couple minutes down the road and Chard Reservoir only a 5-10min drive. For more information and to book a day pass see Chard Anglers Club.
Places to Visit
We are fortunate to have Forde Abbey House and Gardens just down the road from us and it is well worth a visit whilst you are here. In addition there are lots of National Trust properties so you wont run out of places to go!
From smaller towns like Axminster and Chard to the bigger ones of Yeovil and Taunton there are plenty of shops, both independent and chains nearby to explore.
You can find details of the many antiques shops in the area from www.theantiquestourist.com
Around 12miles from the Jurassic Coast you can choose from Lyme Regis, Seaton, West Bay, Burton Bradford, Beer and many more Coastal towns to spend the day.
